On my Facebook (yes I know another Facebook rant) that my family (extended) comment on my cousin or aunt/uncles pictures just to tell them, “My, you’ve gotten fatter/bigger/whatever” (something to that extent). My gripe is… why bother saying that? What do you gain, really, from telling someone they’re fat? Do people gain self-satisfaction or something? Do they get off from making already self-conscious people feel worse about themselves? Really? What do you gain from it?
For me, fat is not a negative, derogatory word. It’s an adjective to describe someone who has fat. Who is plump. Someone like me. I don’t get mad if someone calls me fat, because simply, that is who I am.
However people have not reached that level of comfort within themselves. When people are called fat by a friend or family, it hurts. I’ve been there… and I just think, why? What purpose does it serve to hurt other peoples feelings?
That’s my rant for today. It actually makes me really mad to see, “Oh your mom has gotten fat! hee hee hee” on Facebook pictures of my aunt or something. I mean really, what?
Going to the Philippines with my bf.
Thanks, btw. I think I see the resemblance too. Haha.
